Blessing House helps families in crisis in Lorain

The Blessing House crisis child care center in Lorain County has expanded with the Grace Center to support children and their mothers. The facility offers nonjudgmental help to struggling families, keeping children safe while moms seek resources to rebuild.

Blessing House serves Lorain County children since 2005 with about 100 new kids yearly. Typical stays run 5 to 7 days at an average daily cost of 150 dollars per child funded by private donations.

Amherst man charged in three Amherst burglaries

Amherst police charged Nicklaus Maharidge a 20 year old with two counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary in connection with three break ins over two months on Axtel Street and Sunrise Drive. Two felonies are third degree and one is second degree. He is held at Lorain County Jail pending arraignment in Oberlin Municipal Court. Investigations continue into four other break ins with no charges filed yet.

Standoff ends with man dead in Brunswick home

A 39 year old man who held off police for 30 hours at 1528 Jefferson Ave Brunswick died from gunshot wounds. A woman inside the home was injured and transported to Metro General Hospital. Police released limited details pending relative notifications.
