Shuttle lifts off with spy satellite mission on ice delayed launch
Space shuttle Discovery launched from Cape Canaveral with five astronauts on a Defense Department mission carrying a top secret satellite. Ice and frost on the 15 story external tank caused a late start though engineers cleared the ice before liftoff. Mission marks the 27th shuttle flight since Challenger and the 10th for DoD work, with a seven day schedule and a planned orbit at about 230 miles.
