Nursery boom and family men in Elyria area
The Ohio Nursery Company of Elyria anchored one of the state’s largest nurseries from 1904 to 1917 on about 150 acres along East River Street owned by Henry Wurst with partner William Bates. The article recalls managers John Rigg and Bill Brooke, and notes later changes including Chuck Markham’s 1942 purchase and expansion, plus family links to the Elyria City Band through J C Merthe and Frank Horn.
