Fire Alarms Rise Yet Loss Drops in Elyria Year
Fire Chief Bates reports 249 alarms in the first 11 months, up from 198 last year, while total fire loss fell to 60,090 from 160,262. November shows a spike due to a Broad street service station fire, with 23 alarms and 9,240 loss, mainly from that incident. The Gilkison Manufacturing blaze last year accounts for the large drop this year, and three department vacancies remain unfilled amid manpower concerns.
