Ford UAW contract trims labor cost gap with GM
Ford says the four year contract raises labor costs by less than 1.5 percent annually but includes an $600 million fourth quarter charge with $8,500 signing bonuses for 52,900 workers. The deal backdates wage increases to Sept. 15 and improves benefits for entry level workers, narrowing the gap with GM FCA while remaining higher than Toyota and Honda. Ford aims to use more temporary workers and allows overtime and flexible schedules to meet demand.
