Rise in disability retirements among Ohio police and fire crews
Dayton reports a sharp rise in disability retirements among police and firefighters statewide. From 1998 to this year the share of disability pensions jumped from about 22 percent to roughly 46 percent, prompting calls to review the 1998 overhaul aimed at reducing fake claims. Officials cite lingering concerns over eligibility and oversight as Dayton shows the highest disability pension rates among Ohio’s six largest cities.
