Daring hold up at Lorain tobacco warehouse

Eaton's Last Civil War Veteran Passes From Eaton
Martin V. B. Hopwood aged 92, Eaton's last Civil War veteran, died at home after a two week illness. Born in Grafton on September 16, 1840, he lived in the area all his life, recalled hunger more than bullets in a Rebel prison, and said he could still shoot a squirrel in his later years. Residing in Raton for 60 years, he attended the Church of Christ and is survived by wife Olive and three daughters, plus numerous grandchildren. Funeral set for Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the home, with Rev. H. A. Eicher and Rev. Percy Kohl officiating. Burial under H. R. Nichols Funeral Home at Butternut Ridge cemetery.
