U S Troops Withdraw From Afghanistan Ends Long War
The United States completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan ending its 20 year war. Gen Frank McKenzie announced the last planes left Kabul Airport at 3 29 p m Washington time with Americans left behind numbering in the low hundreds and under 200 per State Dept estimates. Biden said the airlift would end by the deadline and that partners would pressure the Taliban to honor safe passage commitments. The evacuation saw multiple attacks including an Islamic State affiliate strike.
