New Blue Cross pay plan could raise costs for some subscribers
Blue Cross of Northeast Ohio will require hospitals to bid for annual contracts starting next year. Most contracts will go to about 34 existing partners, but non winning hospitals may charge 30 percent of costs to subscribers, while Blue Cross covers emergency room costs. The change aims to save about 50 million dollars next year and reduce unneeded beds, with bids based on cost per case for inpatient services and negotiated outpatient payments.
