Walleye hatching dips but yields strong overall lake population
Lake Erie biologists report the summer walleye hatch ranks fourth in a decade with about 71 fish per hour trawled, far below the peak years but total walleye numbers exceeding 30 million. Expect fishing to shift from excellent to good in two to three years as fish spread out, with perch hatch also strong and other forage fish healthy.
