Indians Still In Race, Lopez Vows Changes Ahead

Cleveland manager Al Lopez refused to concede the season despite a 6 2 loss to the Philadelphia A’s that dropped the Indians to second place a half game behind the idle Yankees. He hinted at lineup changes and even considered Rudy York as a pinch-hitter. Ken Kennedy’s third inning error set the tone as Bob Feller’s bid for his 21st win unraveled. Kennedy later homered, with Morris Martin walking Luke Easter with the bases loaded for Cleveland’s sole runs.
