Export Subsidy Plan Estimates Loss at 12.5 Million
Washington reports Agriculture Department officials say the new wheat export subsidy could cost up to 12.5 million dollars as the government launches a broad program offering exporters 100 million bushels of wheat for sale abroad at competitive prices. The FSCC will absorb losses, financed by AAA Act provisions, with 30 million borrowed from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The plan allows exporters to bid for foreign sales while FSCC buys and ships at reduced rates, amid a record harvest of 956 million bushels this year and a total supply around 1.12 billion bushels.
