Big givers top campaign lists in Ohio
Ohio Citizen Action updated its Open Elections Web Site with June and July donor data for statewide candidates. Fifteen of sixteen candidates participate. Gov candidate Lee Fisher leads with $515,000 from the Ohio Democratic Party. Republican Bob Taft has nearly $1 million in donations but had not yet posted his July report.

In Henrietta Township a 24 member team plus one woman, known as the Henrietta Hillbillies, have won heats at Lorain County Fair demolition derbies for 11 straight years. The group formed from longtime friends led by Sharon Parker and Steve Zurcher, who describe the feverish passion for stripping and smashing old cars, with station wagons favored for the crashes.

Mayor Vincent Urbin of Avon Lake and Mayor John Higgins of Amherst waved to crowds at the Lorain County Fair in Wellington after lifting off on a one hour balloon ride. Wellington Mayor Barbara O Keefe joined the trip offered by RE MAX Premier Service Realty.

Today’s Events: Motocross and Demolition Derbies Schedule
At the fairground in front of the grandstand motocross races start at 10 a.m. The 4-H band and alumni concert play at 2 15 p.m. in the cow palace. Demolition derbies follow at 6 and 8 30 p.m. Attendance shows 30 636 Saturday, vs nearly 80 000 last year.

Steer and pig champions fetch beefy Lorain fair prices
At the Lorain County Junior Fair Livestock Auction Joey Brasee, 13, sold a 1,223 pound steer for 3485 at 2.85 per pound to Brothers Chevrolet of Wellington. Lee Holztrager bought the grand champion pig for 1280 at 5 per pound from Amy Pitts. Proceeds help a new barn and college savings.
