Laid off Ohioan learns sunbelt not the promised land

Harold Taylor, 40, a laid off steel worker from Midland between Pittsburgh and Youngstown, moved to Liberty Texas for guaranteed work with National Pipe and Tube Co. after 13 months of joblessness. The boom faded, benefits ended, and he returned home to East Liverpool with his family, $18 000 home price, a burned house, and a dog died. He now jobs odd jobs, hoping for a permanent opening, while warning others that guaranteed work no longer exists.
