Southeast Texas faced severe flooding as Tropical Storm Harvey dumped up to 24 inches on Houston in 24 hours and authorities warned of catastrophic rainfall possibly reaching 50 inches. At least five deaths were reported with more expected as floodwaters rise, while over 3,000 National Guard troops aided rescue and recovery efforts.
The storm dumps up to 50 inches locally and 15 to 30 inches regionally, creating an unprecedented flooding disaster for Houston and the surrounding area. Eric Fisher of WBZ-TV warns the event will exceed prior U.S. tropical storm rainfall records and impact a massive population.
