Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge orders $124,953 in funding for the last quarter to cover security at the Adult Probation Department offices. Sheriff Stammitti plans full security at the old Lorain County Courthouse and the old Columbia Gas Building by Oct 1, with annual costs projected at $396,356 for staff and equipment.
A district judge ordered the Ohio Department of Education to provide the 2013-14 school year student data to Disability Rights Ohio. Parents may object by Sept. 12. Data includes student IDs, school, grade, race, age, disability category, test scores, reading guarantees, and discipline records.
Alan Sawyer of NRG Energy says the coal-fired NRG Power Plant in Avon Lake will close if it cannot convert to natural gas. A 20 mile 24 inch pipeline would run from the plant to a Dominion East Ohio line, with a 50 foot easement across county land. A second open house is scheduled at Tom's Country Place in Avon.
