Death dealing sound waves created by scientists
Berkeley researchers at the University of California report success using high frequency sound waves emitted from a crystal vibrating at 759 900 times a second to kill large protozoa. The team led by A R Olson F O Sebngjit and C H Johnson built custom glass needles and used a macro manipulator to apply the vibration to planarian worms under high powered microscopes. They caution against predicting future uses, focusing on pure science and possible bloodless surgery applications.
