North Korea fired a surface-to-air missile that exploded several miles from a U S SR-71 Blackbird on a routine mission over South Korea and international airspace. The Pentagon said the aircraft landed safely and that the missile posed no threat. The incident prompted calls for a new session of the Military Armistice Commission.
