Mize Seeks 18th Homer To Tie All Time Mark
Mize blasted his 41st and 42nd homers as the Giants surged in a day with dwindling pennant focus. He needs 18 more to tie the all time single season record, while Williams led American League hitters and Walker topped the NL in batting as Brooklyn, St Louis, and Chicago exchanges produced a chaotic midseason slate. Bankhead debuted for the Dodgers, yielding a five run homer and a rough relief showing, yet will get another chance to pitch as New York and Boston also fought in tight games. Phil Marchildon dazzled before an eighth inning hiccup and was later credited with a clutch double to push Philadelphia past Cleveland in extra innings.
