Electric Peeler Replaces Some Kitchen Work at Fair Cafeteria
At the Lorain County Fair grounds Grange Cafeteria, an electric potato peeling machine handles 50 pounds at a time, aided by volunteers. Workers inspect for eyes and hand-peel some potatoes, while 900 to 1,000 pounds are used daily. Potatoes come from Eppleys Potato Farm Carlisle Township.

Rains Hit Crop Contests At Lorain County Fair
July storms reduced both quality and quantity of entries at the Lorain County Fair crop judging. Judges Karl Schneider and Don Myers noted overall mediocrity with many tomatoes still green and cucumbers down. Hay entries were strong with top champions from Jaloda Farms on Route 303 in Wellington.

Fair-goers are urged to submit a name for the new Wellington display building at the fair grounds. Fair Board President Tim Bucks Jones invites ideas in a box beside Building No. 39, a 7,200 square foot heated venue with restrooms and kitchenette for year round banquets and events.

Lorain County 4-H Dominates State Fair Poultry Contest
Lorain County 4-H teams won senior and junior poultry judging titles at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus. The senior team Robson Farkas Thompson totaled 1660 points, with Ashland and Erie counties placing second and third. Individually Robson finished fifth, Farkas seventh, Thompson ninth. In juniors, two Lorain teams finished first and second led by Aldrich Street Street Pickworth and Grasse Pickworth Cardwell Kirkpatrick with Aldrich top scorer. Twenty-one teams and 70 individuals competed, the largest poultry contest at the fair. Winners to be honored at youth awards night with plaques.
