The Consumer Price Index rose 1.1 percent in July and 12 months to 15.2 percent, driven by a 0.8 percent jump in food prices. Transportation costs, housing, and energy also shifted, while real weekly earnings fell 0.8 percent in July amid a 2.9 percent yearly drop in real spendable income.
State pharmacy board investigator testified that since Doctors Clinic lost its license, Elyria’s West Side Pharmacy filled hundreds of prescriptions signed by Dr. Leonard Faymore. He seized 1,000 prescriptions Aug 20, with over 800 defined as highly addictive under federal law. The owner, Mukhtar Syed, is indicted on multiple counts of improper dispensing. The case links Doctors Clinic to a broader drug problem in Cleveland, where police describe the clinic as a drug mill. The suit to shut down the clinic seeks public-safety action.
About 700 Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority family tenants will start paying their own utility bills as LMHA converts to retail service. Individual metering begins Oct 1 pending federal approval. first bills expected Nov 1. Elderly high-rise residents unaffected. Leavitt Homes tenants pay only if costs exceed LMHA limits.
The majority of the 600000 postal workers ratified a 4.8 billion dollar contract. APWU leader Moe Biller and Letter Carriers' Vincent Sombrotto announced the results. Union members approved 124316 to 20856 with 85.6 percent support and 83 percent turnout amid earlier strike threats and bargaining disputes.
