Reds Protest $150 Fine For McKechnie Behavior
Cincinnati Reds officials planned a formal protest to the National League president regarding the $150 fine imposed on manager Bill McKechnie for a protest at St Louis. They called the penalty excessive and hoped to reduce it to protect McKechnie’s otherwise clean conduct record. Frick cited abusive language toward umpire George Barr as the reason for the fine.

Charges P U C Engineers Took Gifts
Charges that two Ohio Public Utilities Commission engineers received merchandise gifts from an Columbus gas company in 1935 were filed by City of Columbus attorneys. L. F. Dabe and C. F. Foster, long serving commission staff, were named. Edwin M. Tharp and Herman H. Hall of Ohio Fuel Gas Co. were said to authorize the gifts. Vouchers and memoranda were submitted as evidence. City lawyers cited a law forbidding gifts to commission employees and possible discharge penalties. The filing formalizes a prior informal protest regarding gift costs in the Columbus gas rate case now before the commission. The rate dispute centers on whether gift costs should be allowed in operating expenses. The city built the case under J. Paul Bundon guidance. Dabe joined in 1922 and Foster in 1914.
