Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the United States landing at Newark Airport at 10 50 A M after more than 19 hours in the air. She used the same Lockheed monoplane she had flown to Ireland, left Los Angeles at 3 26 54 P M EST, with 465 gallons of fuel. Fire on plane during battle with miners at Mulkeytown
Aug 25. Deputies opened fire on an airplane during clashes after striking miners captured 800 deputies in Franklin county. Truck and trailer stolen with driver held prisoner
Donald Welsh of Toledo was freed after being held by three bandits who jacked a truck and trailer loaded with tobacco spark plugs and other goods for Buffalo. The truck vanished in Toledo while deputies tracked a Studebaker sedan and a detour toward Detroit. Welsh called police from County Hospital around 2 AM after hours of captivity.

Fatal collision on North Ridge near Pleasant View Sanatorium
One person died and four others were seriously injured when two cars collided near the Pleasant View Sanatorium entrance on North Ridge Road east of Leavitt Road at about 7:45 p m. The crash involved a car driven west by Wak sen and another driven east by Mrs Keatings son-in-law. Investigating deputies said the case remains under study with no arrests planned. Mrs Keating will be buried at Ridgenill Memorial Cemetery after services at p m conducted by Rev F E Eastman. She leaves four children and several grandchildren.
