Paul Redfern takes off from Brunswick Islyn Isle at 12 46 P M for a 4600 mile nonstop flight to Rio de Janeiro in a Stinson monoplane after an initial failed attempt. The Navy says six vessels patrol the Caribbean to spot Redfern’s Port of Brunswick.
The U S Isabel flagship of Rear Admiral H H Hough was hit twice by Chinese rifle fire from Nanking and Poker. One American sailor suffered flesh wounds as the ship returned fire with machine guns. Admiral Williams reported more hostile firing but no further casualties.
Nisa Florence Anderson of Los Angeles died in Washington after being wounded by a Mexican bandit attack aboard a train Tuesday. The State Department will press the Mexican government for swift capture and punishment if local authorities cannot act. The department notes American charge Schoenfeldt may have relayed representations to the foreign office, though no details on local authorities progress are given.
Ohio State University will charge a general student fee of 20 per quarter this fall up from 15. Trustees approved the raise after the house finance committee cut the university budget, per President Rightmire.

In Seven Oaks England on August 25 a holiday express train on the Southern Railway derailed while traveling from London. Thirteen people were killed including six women and nineteen were seriously injured as three of the cars toppled. Heavy rains are suspected to have caused track subsidence under the high speed train carrying about 350 passengers.
In Hamburg on August 25 demonstrators sympathetic to Sacco and Vanzetti dragged a policeman from a street car and stabbed him to death. The incident occurred amid protests in the city.
A three member committee appointed by Dr A R Agate reports about 700 dollars has been raised toward a 3500 funding drive for a brick and steel arch entrance with ticket booths to Ely stadium on Middle Avenue. Donors are welcomed via committee members.

Frank C. Malone 38 of Lorain escaped a head on crash when his car struck a city street car on Lake Avenue between Spruce and Oak. Malone and two passengers on the street car were lightly hurt. Malone was rushed to Elyria Memorial Hospital with suspected injuries. a bystander Ethel Smith 1114 Lake Ave sustained a knee abrasion. Fire department aided in the scene after the car caught fire.

A powerful quake in southern Formosa killed ten people and injured about one hundred. It destroyed around 200 homes and left severe damage, with the disaster surpassing earlier tremors at Vensoi where nine died and forty were injured. Formosa, an island in the China Sea, lies under Japanese rule and features mountainous terrain with active volcanoes.

Three women were jailed after a riot near Florence mine in St. Clairsville when a mob of about 60 women attacked a convoy escorting 15 non union miners. Sterling Colorado August 25 An airplane carrying mail to Rapid City South Dakota for President Coolidge reportedly crashed a few miles north of North Platte Nebraska. The pilot named Barlow was severely injured with both legs broken and possible internal injuries as the plane struck a street after taking mail from a train.
In the Aug 25 bulletin from Japan, 110 sailors are missing after two collisions during battle practice. The destroyer Warahi sank after ramming the cruiser Dinten, with 90 missing aboard. The destroyer Ashi and cruiser Naka also collided. both ships were damaged and 20 sailors are unaccounted for.
In Norwalk Ohio Aug 25 a stove fire started by a kerosene and gasoline mix used to start a fire killed five people and left two others in critical condition. Mrs Mary Hicks 38 and her daughter Viva 3 and infant are among the dead along with Mrs Robert Pool 18 and her baby Richard six months. Homer Hicks and Robert Pool fought severe burns and remain hospitalized with uncertain outcomes. The mix was used to clean an automobile motor then carried into the house by Pool and ignited in the kitchen. Neighbors rushed the injured to Norwalk where the fatalities occurred hours later.

The navy mine sweeper Woodcock was sent from Port au Prince Haiti to assist the four mast schooner Ester of Mobile Alabama reported foundering off Porto Rico. The vessel had 10 feet of water in its hold and faulty pumps though sails and masts remained usable as it headed for Arecibo.
Elyrian denied a liquor possession charge in police court after arrest Wednesday night by officers Hamlin Onitts and Dobos with state prohibition inspector O F Rankin. Three dozen beer bottles and two quarts of stronger liquor were found buried, officers said. He faces first appearance at five this evening.
