Avon Lake cuts health contract with Lorain by five thousand
Avon Lake city council unanimously approved a reduced annual payment from 75000 to 70000 and extended the Lorain Health Department contract through June 1978. Mayor Richard Haustod cited Elyria's proposed cheaper service but warned against switching now to avoid nurse disruption for elderly residents and ongoing disease prevention programs. A citizens committee will study four options including continuing with Lorain, switching to Elyria or county systems, or creating a new health department.

Elyria School Board Grants Raises to Secretaries and Supervisors
The Elyria school board approved a 12 percent two year pay increase for about 470 non teaching employees, aligning 12 administrative secretaries and eight supervisors with the raises but without Chapter 133 and 410 union membership. Eight supervisors had previously 6 percent raises and will receive the same fringe benefits plus longevity pay. The eight secretaries receive salary and fringe benefits matching CAPSE members, while 12 administrative secretaries receive the same increases as CAPSE. The board also retired three teachers, hired seven replacements, added a half time occupational therapist, approved numerous supplemental contracts for extra duties, budgeted funds for a Disadvantaged Pupils Program and for Adult Basic Education, and hired additional instructional aides.
