Kent Ohio United Press International report says the Ohio School Survey Commission will ask the legislature to consolidate about half of the 711 districts to roughly 434. Sen Oliver Ocasek D Akron secretary to the commission told Ohio Education Association delegates the panel also seeks added state aid and shifting tax burden from property owners. He noted high schools would require at least 500 students or 45 courses, and the panel plans a Thursday or Friday Columbus meeting to address a 2000 teaching shortage.
