Civil War Veterans Visit Elyria From Ohio Reg 60
Fifty members of the Sixtieth Ohio Regiment are in Elyria as guests of the G A R Richard Allen Post. They mostly came from Cleveland where the unit was recruited in 1864. They served 11 months and 220 men died or were killed, in hospitals, prisons, or from disease during the war. Excavation for a Lake Shore freight depot on Hast River street may start next week at an estimated cost of 40 000 to 50 000. A late fire in the heart of the business district caused significant damage to frame buildings behind the Hotel Franklin, with losses pegged at 22 500.
