Toxic chemical cloud over Frisco forces area closure
A chemical spill near San Francisco International Airport released a toxic cloud over three square miles. Officials say about 1,000 gallons of silicon tetrachloride were trapped in an underground tank and workers moved to neutralize and dispose of the remaining fluid.

Polish hijacker uses dud grenade to hijack airliner to West Berlin
A 25 year old Polish man hijacked a LOT An-24 from Wroclaw to West Berlin using a defective grenade. He and two passengers sought asylum in the West after landing at Tempehof Air Base. The plane carried 36 passengers with two Americans among them. The hijacker handed over the plane to West Berlin police for possible trial on air piracy charges.

Gas leak at meat plant hospitalizes 31 in Plant City
A Saturday gas leak at a meat packing plant in Plant City hospitalized 31 workers, eight unconscious, with ten observers. Police and fire departments referred inquiries to the plant operators. John Bray of Sykes Brothers said the problem has been fixed and occurred in an isolated area. The plant, a bacon packing facility, planned a later report.
