Beef Price Boost Seen Pass Buck
Washington the administration passed the buck to Congress for a planned change in meat ceilings that will raise retail beef prices one to two cents a pound within 60 days. Price Controller Michael V. Di Salle noted housewives will pay more for beef this Fall, not the hoped 10 cents a pound cut. The beef hike followed approval from the meat packing and slaughtering industry at an OPS meeting. Congress and the White House face inflation control battles ahead of the 1952 election. President Truman will ask Congress to amend the controls law to restore Di Salle’s authority and modify cost provisions affecting manufacturers to the consumer.
