New York Day by Day highlights from Charles B. Driscoll
A column of brief New York notes lists Hendrik Willem van Loon favoring privacy at meals and a relaxed smoking rule at The Sun offices. It sketches St Paul’s Chapel, Gilbert White’s storytelling, Margaret Lowengrund’s etchings of New York, Gelett Burgess’s Nonsense Village, and evolving streetscapes near Sutton Place and West Tenth Street with old artists’ studios, gas lamps, and a famous Goya-like Carmencita by John Singer Sargent.
