A Franciscan monastery in Cleveland was damaged by a blast injuring no one but shattering nearby windows. The explosion occurred just after news broke that Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeu Vanzetti were executed in Boston. An officer was thrown from his motorcycle by the blast.
Two thousand troops mobilized in Geneva to curb protests after Sacco and Vanzetti executions fueled violent demonstrations. American delegates and tourists faced stone throwing, window smashing, and property damage at the Warsaal cafe and nearby areas as crowds demanded reactions to the case.
Boston Aug 23 One newspaperman witnessed the Sacco and Vanzetti execution under a Massachusetts law granting one reporter access. W E Playfair of Boston was assigned six years ago to cover the case and finally viewed the electric chair last night, then relayed his account to colleagues.
Two members of the defense committee Gardner Jackson and Aldina Felicant formally claimed the bodies of Sacco and Vanzetti at the northern mortuary. They acted on behalf of Mrs. Rose Sacco and Miss Tulia Vanzetti.
Secretary of Commerce Hoover told the Press the industrial situation mirrors last year’s period. The will dated 1925 of former U S Steel chairman Elbert H Gary was filed for probate in Mineola New York. A 300000 trust for grandson Elbert Sutcliffe and another for Julia Elizabeth Campbell are created with life incomes. The estate lists no debts besides a 100000 bank loan and includes a 50000 trust for the Gary Memorial Methodist Church. The remainder is split between widow and two daughters with further shares after the widow’s death.
Federal highway officials surveyed Lorain County with County Engineer C. T. Biggs for a traffic census as part of a regional road program. Eleven stations were set up in the northern area to begin the census on Labor Day.

Sen Simeon D Fess in Kenya O Aug 23 says he would be unhappy if nominated for president. He cites burdens of the office and notes Coolidge as still the likely choice. Fess adds no one in the Coolidge circle expects a 1928 bid by the president.
J. T. Miller of 121 East avenue was arrested late yesterday by O. B. Rankin at his business after liquor was found in a locker. Miller faces possession of liquor charges and was to be arraigned in common pleas court today.
The Lorain county bar association sets its annual picnic for September 1 at the Elyria Country Club. Committee members Astorosys D. B Symons F. A. Stetson and W. A. Miller announce the event with activities including an afternoon 1:00 p.m. start and a 6:30 p.m. dinner. Members may play a round of Rolf.

President Coolidge travels through Yellowstone National Park with Mrs. Coolidge and son John on the second day of his trip. The caravan stops at major sights including Old Faithful, Emerald Pool, Mammoth Paint Pots and Norris Geyser, with plans to continue sightseeing in the Excelsior Basin and stay tonight at Old Faithful Inn.
The U S Weather Bureau posted storm warnings from Boston to Wilmington North Carolina due to a tropical disturbance of great intensity with hurricane winds. The center was near 31.5 latitude and 73.6 longitude moving northward with strong north and northwest winds likely to reach gale force off Virginia and North Carolina coasts. Dangerous gales expected from New Jersey to Boston with northeast winds shifting to northwest tonight and Wednesday.
More than 500 ministers and laymen from Ohio gather in Lorain for two church conferences. The Evangelical church holds its 90th Ohio Conference at Emmanuel Church with Bishop L. H. Saegars presiding and Dr. J. C. Masbee as keynote speaker. The Lorain District Baptist Association meets at Trinity Baptist Church with 16 area churches and two missionaries from Asia on the program.
Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware Ohio informs prospective students’ parents that women students are not allowed to smoke on campus. President John W Hoffman requests that parents steer daughters to other schools if they insist on smoking. The college also bans student motor car use and student marriages, while dancing requires parental permission.

Hugh Ruttenberg of 1137 West Madison Street Chicago had three dollars he planned to use to return to Chicago by car. His vehicle on Cleveland Street struck a car driven by Matt Ditricks of Ridgeville after a left front wheel broke. The two men settled the three dollar dispute, per police report.
Lorain Aug 25 Lorain Republican Civic club invites county commissioners to explain why work on the Lorain County Memorial Bridge is not progressing. The meeting at Hore Antlers will seek answers from Republican leaders.
Seven boys from the CY camp near Vermilion travel by machine with Jack Siekkinen and Tewin Tutt for a fishing and camping trip through Michigan. The group, formerly camp laborers, plans to return by next Monday and review the trip at the start of the following week. Siekkinen says he will personally cover any required expenses. Participants include Warne Timectt, Tew Pave Grins, Harold Lea Tank, Beh Zileh wed Goacher.
