Five killed as tornado flattens trailer court

Central Illinois and Indiana were hit by a multi state storm system with a tornado striking mobile homes near Lake Matoo. Authorities counted five dead and at least 57 injured as dozens of mobile homes were destroyed in a half mile by a quarter mile area. The disaster also damaged crops and infrastructure across Windsor to Lake Matoo, with widespread debris and tree damage reported.

Vance greets China in first high level talks with new leadership

Secretary of State Cyrus Vance met with Chinese Foreign Minister Huang Hua in Beijing in the Cartel regime's first high level contact with its new leadership. The talks, to run over the next three days, will address Smak relations and U S support for Nationalist China in Taiwan as Vance's party arrives after a Tokyo flight. Huang Hua earlier told Chinese media that diplomatic relations cannot be established while the United States maintains Taiwan support and the mutual defense treaty.

Chip and Caron Carter to help run peanut business

Chip Carter and his wife Caron will leave the White House with their six month old son to return to Plains Georgia to work in the family peanut business. A White House spokeswoman said Caron will host a farewell lunch. Chip’s absence followed a period of mental strain and reconciliation with President Carter, with plans to “help out” in the business though his exact role remains undefined.

1540 Indian settlement may be rebuilt in Sheffield

Archaeologists led by Dr. David Brose of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and students excavated a native village site above French Creek at Exden in Loram County. They uncovered fire pits post holes and burial grounds to piece together life in northern Ohio in the 15th and 16th centuries. The population around 200 lived in circular houses and practiced fishing and farming. The exact tribal identity remains uncertain with Erie and Algonquian possibilities debated. Page 4 Col 1.
