City planners expect West River Parkway to become a busy corridor with 25,000 vehicles daily through the West Bridge Street underpass and about 8,500 turning onto Third Street. Phases B and C target completion in May next year at over 3 million dollars, with total project cost near 7 million. Federal funds cover most costs, and East River Parkway controversy delays 1980 completion.

Elfers Halts 63 Mile Lake Erie Swim Past Halfway
Swimmer Bob Elfers, 41, was pulled from Lake Erie at 11 40 PM after hallucinating past halfway in a 63 mile crossing. He drifted more than 30 hours, aided by his father Walter and brother Ben along with his 16 year old daughter Kelley. He showed chills at noon and wore a T shirt that hampered his stroke before resting aboard Island Queen NT en route to Fairport Harbor.

Army corporal filmed Korea border incident
Cpl. Timothy Gray of rural Gladstone Illinois says he filmed the Panmunjom border clash in Korea last Wednesday while patrolling the DMZ. He reported parts of the film aired on TV Friday night and says he has been removed from the DMZ and sent to Seoul awaiting reassignment. The bodies of Maj. Arthur Bonifas and Lt. Mark Barrett were flown back to the United States on Friday.
