Elyria grad with Crohn’s to undergo surgery for relief
Elyria High School and Ashland University alumna Sarah Toby, 25, has battled Crohn’s disease since age 12. She plans surgery Sept. 2 to remove damaged small intestine, after four months of Remicade infusions at Cleveland Clinic. Her family organized a Thirty-One Gifts fundraiser to raise awareness and comfort Crohn’s patients.

Soup Kitchen Cook-off boosts Lorain Salvation Army funds
The Salvation Army hosts its third annual Soup Kitchen Cook-off on July 16 at the Scharfelds Avon Lake home. More than 250 guests sampled dishes from Lorain County kitchens. Winners include St. Andrew's Episcopal Elyria with the Golden Kettle Award and Oberlin Weekday Community Meals at Christ Episcopal Church Oberlin. Proceeds aid the Lorain County Salvation Army. a Cleveland grant will match part of the funds. Also upcoming is the Elyria Public Library murder mystery play Murder Amongst Friends at West River Road North with three shows September 9 11 19. tickets $15 benefiting the Elyria Public Library Foundation.
