Pfeifer bill would require restraints on children in cars
Senator Paul Pfeifer of Bucyrus chairs the Senate Judiciary committee says he will ask for passage of a bill mandating child restraint systems for youngsters in private vehicles and certain day care transports. The measure targets children under four or under 40 pounds, with buses and taxis exempt and a fine to encourage compliance. The sponsor cites traffic deaths as the leading cause of injury for children over one year old and claims restraints could cut fatalities 70 to 90 percent.
