Debit cards seen as bright future by bankers
Bank officials say over 30 percent of Americans show interest in debit cards that draw payments directly from bank accounts. Atlantic Richfield tests the system in California stores with potential expansion to 2,100 outlets in 17 states by mid 1986. Mobil Oil to run a year long nationwide test linking 2,500 service stations to debit machines. Interlink, a debit card network by five major California banks, aims to start late 1984 or early 1985.
