American teacher aims for three nonstop Channel swims

John Erikson, a 24 year old from Chicago, continued his bid to become the first person to swim the English Channel three times non stop. He completed the first leg Dover to France in 8 hours 33 minutes and returned to Dover in about 12 hours, nearing the English coast on the final crossing. A Channel Swimming Association spokeswoman projected a France arrival near Cap Gris Nez or Wissant by late afternoon, with an observer noting he remained strong and upbeat.

Kelley-Pelee Swim Tests Will To Finish A Challenge

Barbara Hoehn a 22 year old North Olmsted swimming instructor braved high waves and cold Lake Erie waters on Sunday to complete a nine mile swim from Kelleys Island to Pelee Island. She had attempted the distance last year but quit after five miles due to cold water and fatigue.

Explosion Levels Modu lar Home in LaGrange Township

A 36 year old LaGrange man was critically injured when a blast destroyed his single story modular home on Pike Court in Pheasant Run Village. Debris damaged three neighboring houses as firemen suspected propane gas buildup under the foundation. The man, William Graham of 85 Pike Court, was found outside the home and treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for facial injuries and burns. Neighbors recalled the blast as sounding like a sonic boom and reported wood debris flying through a window.

McDonald's cuts burger prices at area outlets

McDonald's lowers hamburger and cheeseburger prices by five cents at seven company owned restaurants in the region effective Tuesday. Hamburger prices drop from 45 to 38 cents and cheeseburgers from 48 to 43 cents to help young families fight inflation. The cuts apply to 1,225 company owned restaurants, about a quarter of the national outlets. Independent outlets are asked to follow voluntarily, with several local locations exempted. A company official said he does not know the total cost to the corporation.
