Two Rescued After 12 Hours In Lake Erie Stormy Sailboat Rescue
Port Clinton residents Mrs Robert Crawford and Charles Herr were rescued after clinging to an overturned sailboat in Lake Erie for more than two hours then surviving a frigid night. They were spotted by Dr. Benjamin Gillette of Toledo and guests aboard his yacht en route to the Interlake Yachting Association Regatta. The rescue occurred northwest of West Sister Island as a stiff breeze capsized their craft on Saturday night. The couple had sailed to Detroit for a boat race and were returning when the accident happened.
