Akron area polymer project faces university pushback and funding woes
The Akron area polymer initiative aimed to spark new business with labs at University of Akron Case Western Reserve University and NASA Glenn. It faced resistance from universities seeking control over their research and failed to secure equity stakes. It aided foreign firms like Poly-Display and Advanced Coatings International to set up local ventures, creating about 25 jobs, but the downturn hindered financing for most participants.
