Medicare payment shortfall forces layoffs in Lorain County nursing staff
Lorain County Health Department will lay off up to six nurses this fall due to a $60 000 Medicare payment shortfall and the Lorain County Budget Commission’s refusal to add $30 000 inside millage funds. Six positions include three part time and two or three full time in home health care. The department projected $400 000 in Medicare reimbursement but will receive about 340 000 after changes. The cuts follow a decision to stop home health service for Elyria Lorain and Vermilion residents.
