Farm World plans largest AAA program for 1939
Washington reports the Agriculture Department outlined a 1939 Agricultural Adjustment Administration program potentially the costliest yet for the New Deal, with a projected total between 750 million and 1 billion dollars. Estimated breaks include 212 million in price adjustments, 45 million soil conservation, 50 million direct aid, plus surplus removal and crop loans. Henry A. August clipping of seedings reported usually beneficial
August clipping of clover, alfalfa, and mixed seedings is usually beneficial if rainfall is favorable, as weeds and forages in small grain stubble can be cut for hay with similar effects to grazing. After September 1, clipping harms red clover and October harms alfalfa, and high cuts favor weeds over crops.

No Increase Seen Possible In 1939 Ohio Wheat Quota
A spokesman for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration said there is no possibility of increasing Ohio's 1939 wheat acreage quota under the crop control program. The national 55,000,000 acre limit is already allocated, and any rise for one state would disrupt the program aimed at keeping wheat prices stable. Ohio Director Earl H. Hanefeld had asked for a 10 percent boost, but the state’s maximum remains 1,654,847 acres, 31.6 percent below 1936.
