13000 Miners Start Blockade at Taylorville Illinois
About 13 000 to 15 000 union miners formed a peaceful blockade around four Christian County mines to demand a five dollar wage. They slept in bivouacs near Taylorville while Illinois National Guard units, ordered to stand ready after a reconnaissance flight, rode out as a precaution. No violence was reported.

Two Men Fined On Larceny Charge In Brighton
Roy Polk and Ellis Mohns were arrested yesterday in Brighton and fined 20 dollars plus costs and sentenced to 10 days in county jail for petit larceny. Before Justice Joseph Petro they confessed to stealing 21 bushels of wheat from Abner Storrow and selling it to a Brighton elevator company, deputies Paul Chapman and Bob Rodgers reported.

Cleveland Aug 19 The grand jury nearing the end of a second phase in the Cuyahoga county treasury investigation expected further indictments early next week. Existing cases include deputy treasurer Alex Bernstein charged with embezzlement and Maurice Maschke Herman H Finkis Henry Beckerman H H Felsman and Charles Bernstein accused of aiding Bernstein. Investigators cite a 1928 shortage of about 200000 funded by loans to Bernstein and a current alleged shortage of 477000. The panel will reconvene Monday then proceed to other criminal cases.

Cleveland Man Convicted of Inciting Riot in Lorain

Fireman Killed Two Hurt In Train Derailment At Cleveland
A Nickle Plate passenger train derailed at an East Cleveland crossing killing foreman Charles Harrison of Bellevue and injuring engineer Jake Stape and Earl M. Sheldon of Buffalo. Cincinnati report says Bishop Barj Cranston oldest Methodist Episcopal prelate in the United States died last night in his 92nd year. Retired since 1916 he had lived with his wife on a farm near New Rich Mond Ohio. Born Athens Ohio June 27 1840 he spent 49 years in the ministry and was among the churchs best known figures. He was the last surviving of three Athens classmates who became bishops David H. Moore and Charles C. McCabe.
