Longtime Elyria resident Eddie Schmidt 94 dies at home
Eddie M Schmidt 94 of Elyria died at home on Tuesday August 14 2018. He was married 70 years to Phyllis Schmidt and supported five children including a writer a tax specialist a professor an IT manager and a social worker. He served in World War II flew 10 missions in a B 25 over Italy and earned multiple medals. He later worked as a nursing home administrator and a realtor and was active in VFW Post 1079 and American Legion Post 12. He is survived by four children eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services are held August 19 2018 at St Vincent de Paul Church with burial at St Marys Cemetery and military honors by VFW Post 1079. In lieu of flowers donations to St Vincent de Paul or Valor Home Lorain are invited.

North Olmsted to celebrate new campus and homecoming
The North Olmsted Homecoming Festival runs Aug 24 to 26 with a parade Aug 26 at 1 p.m. and a dedication ceremony for the new sixth through 12th grade campus on Butternut Ridge Road. Activities include rides, food, garden show and a 6 to 9 p.m. celebration Aug 26 in the Big Event Tent at North Olmsted Park.
