Britain Proposes Early Naval Conference

Britain sends formal notes to the United States Japan France and Italy proposing an informal naval conference in October as a precursor to a wider multilateral talks. Washington August 16 government officials say the 4 billion work relief plan must average over 40,000 jobs a day for the next 10 weeks to end the dole by November 1. Needy on federal payrolls reach 2,500,990 with 692,009 already employed. WPA reports 550,000 employed in August and CCC lists 400,000. WPA has hired 125,000 more. federal agencies account for 25,000. CCC now 442,900 in camps. WPA projects added 6,009 jobs worth 135,000 dollars. Government departments show a net 42,000 more workers, Hopkins to push 450,990,000 in works through presidential approval soon.
