Looking Sideways on Texas Tax Tangle and Women’s Fortitude
The column rails at federal tax policy forcing housewives in Texas to collect social security taxes, predicting a fight with President Truman’s administration. It cites Marshall as the test site, notes small penalties, and invokes Lysistrata and Vivian Kellems as rallying references. The piece links national policy to local resistance and anticipates broader backlash across states. It also mentions an Oberlin Conservatory opera event and a VFW picnic in Graf.
