Mount Vernon estate battered by severe mudslide
Heavy rainfall near Alexandria caused a major mudslide at Mount Vernon South of the city damaging the east lawn and bricks from an 18th century mansion wall. Officials say the estate sustained water damage elsewhere with inspections ongoing and repairs likely costing north of a million dollars. The mansion and tomb were checked and remain intact.
