Unceremonious Ceremony Opens Ridgeville Elyria Water

Water from Elyria flowed into Ridgeville mains for first time this morning in a quiet event. Services Director Michael J. Lotko Jr and County Commissioner President Ludwig J. Pincura turned a valve with Walter Meyers at the R. G. Lloyd Supply Co. site outside the city in Elyria Township. The act signaled progress toward full interconnection, though no residents were yet using the system as meters had not been installed.

Two Escapees Captured Near Wheeling Ohio Jail Break

Two of eight men who escaped from the Ohio County jail near Wheeling were captured early today. Edward H. Wilson, 39, of Marlins Ferry, Ohio, was nabbed by Wheeling police at Martins Ferry and sent to Belmont County jail after refusing extradition. Authorities warn the remaining six fugitives as state line alerts spread. Also included are disjointed notes on Elyria Ridgeville water meters and a Tokyo air disaster with casualties.

Woman sets self on fire after police stop in Westlake

Theresa Smith 32, a former Norwalk mental patient, awoke in a supermarket drive in a Westlake station wagon. She handed a license and SS card reading Lynn Hauk 18 before dousing herself with gasoline and lighting her clothes. Officers pulled her from the car. she suffered full body burns and was listed in critical condition. Police noted a missing body and a car registered to her husband.

Lebanon Pullout Begins From Beirut and Area

A battalion of 1,800 U.S. Marines and several hundred Navy Seabees began withdrawing from Lebanon at dawn.
