Safe incumbents dominate funds in safe districts
CANDIDATES in the majority Pryce Gillmor and Oxley usually win with more than 60 percent of the votes in their district, and Tubbs Jones won re election in 2000 with 85 per cent Analysts and campaign finance watchdogs cite many reasons for incumbents in safe districts to raise so much money including the need to ward off any unanticipated challenges Every safe lawmaker can tell you a story about a friend of theirs considered a safe lawmaker and who then somehow lost in a surprise election said Herb Asher political science professor emeritus at Ohio State University Lawmakers from safe districts are expected to share the wealth with other candidates and their political parties.
