Paper routes fade as youth carriers give way to cars
Pittsburgh area report on The Pittsburgh Press replacing foot patrols with adult car deliveries. The shift affects about 4 500 youths and 605 drivers nationwide amid declines in under 18 share of earners from 90 to 66 percent since 1980. Suburban growth and fewer afternoon papers drive the change.
