Youth Fatally Hurt In Lake Road Accident
Dale Hastings, 19, of East Avenue near LaPorte, died at St Joseph's Hospital Lorain at 11:15 a.m. from injuries after a car carrying four youths left Brownhelm road near Lake road and rolled twice. Driver Wilson Fox 26 of 1344 Lake Avenue, other passengers Fred Pallas 17 Allan McCauley 18 and Hastings were returning from Vermilion on the Lake dance hall. The car owned by Holmes McCauley, Allan's father, was driven at about 45 mph when the driver was blinded by oncoming lights and failed to turn. Hastings survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Hastings, a sister Avis, three grandparents. He had been a Chronicle-Telegram carrier. member of Second Congregational Church. Funeral plans pending.

Mrs Nettie A Norton 78 a former teacher and for 25 years operator of a tire business in Amherst died in Amherst hospital at 2 15 am after three weeks' hospitalization for a broken hip She was born in Williamstown PA and moved to Amherst as a child becoming a resident there since age 16 The obituary notes her long local involvement and that further details continue on page 2

Narrow Escape From Drowning Off Lorain Pier
John Valassis, 42, of Elyria, nearly drowned when he slipped from a mossy pier at Century Park on Lake Erie. Gus Ruselis, 43, of Cleveland, grabbed Valassis’ shirt with his line, both fell in, but the Meyers brothers then rescued Valassis. Ruselis was saved by Leo Meyers as the trio struggled in the lake, with bystanders offering help.
